About Our Project
Our sole purpose of designing this database is that it will create value for the restaurant, Masons Grille 52. Masons Grille 52 is an average restaurant that does dining services, customers can order pick ups and make reservations, and it has a bar. The system for reservations that is currently in place is handwritten on the back of a specials sheet from the previous night. A customer will call the restaurant and their reservation will be set up by any person willing to answer the phone. If a customer calls to make an order the server writes down the order, puts it through the ticket machine and it gets sent to the kitchen to be prepared. All of the action going on in the restaurant is basically being handled by word of mouth and handwriting. This system can get unorganized very easily in a restaurant because people will forget what was said to them, and many of the workers have handwriting that is difficult to read. Our database is going to allow for organization in a somewhat unsystematic restaurant. When a customer orders food to be picked up, their order will be passed through the database along with their information if they are not already in the system. This will be the same process as making a reservation. When there is an order made, the kitchen will also be able to instantly see what the customer wants, and the time they will be picking up their order.
